Top 420 Events in Vancouver

420 has always been a protest and a celebration done right in Vancouver. It all started on April 20, 1995, when a few dozen people gathered to share and celebrate cannabis at Victory Square Park at Hastings and Cambie. By 2007, there were over 7,000 people at 4/20, packing the front of the Art Gallery. The event had grown to include a full day of live music, public speakers and many tables openly selling cannabis products. Inspired by Vancouver, other 4/20 protests were becoming established in cities across Canada.

The 4/20 protest continued to grow and by 2014 the crowds were surpassing 30,000 people, filling the whole Art Gallery and surrounding area, forcing the shutdown of Hornby, Howe, Robson and Georgia streets. After consultation with city officials, the 4/20 organizing committee decided to move the protest to Sunset Beach in 2016.

It’s now 2022, and after getting through a two-year pandemic, the 420 Smoke Out is back, Vancouver’s best (and most controversial) 420 friendly event. Don’t miss these other top 420 events in Vancouver.

Cannabis out, Mushrooms in?

It seems cannabis has become too mainstream to some users, since becoming legal and widely consumed, losing its appeal, and hurting the counterculture vibe it once had. That’s why the organizers of the long-running 4/20 event in Vancouver have picked a new focus for this year and have decided to enjoy their 420 celebrations a bit differently, with psychedelics mushrooms.

The switch recognizes that a cannabis celebration is “no longer in the best interests of the legalization movement.” Instead, the focus has shifted to the use of psychedelics, which are now in the same ‘grey area’ that cannabis was up until national legalization, said to be called the year of “Soma in the Springtime”. As with previous years, the potency of each will vary from vendor to vendor.
